Collections a few months away

In case you aren't on the Flickr API mailing list and you've been itching to use the new collections feature in your API application, Eric Costello responded to someone asking when "collections" will be available in the API:

Probably months. Could be sooner, but we have a whole lot of higher priority things going on right now, and before we release the APIs for collections there are some changes we need to make to how collections work (we're changing them to handle mixed content). We definitely know there is developer interest in the collection APIs, so we'll get to it as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience :)

I will be trying to update phpFlickr as soon as those API calls are available.

I'm that "someone", and I was asking because I want to use them with phpFlickr. :)
Too bad they're so far away….

    Hi,

Is it true that phpFlickr is incompatible with PHP 5.2.1 ?
If yes, this could explain why I have these errors, the same but on different lines, for the three plugins using phpFlickr with open_basedir and HTTPRequest in the phpFlickr.php, that were already posted here and in the forum.

May you also inform us if it is planned to be corrected ? And more or less when, if possible ?

Thanks, and already thanks for the job accomplished
    Matt

    Rmatt,

I don't know any reason why it would be incompatible. This site is running on php 5.2.2 without any problems. Would you care to point me to the specific errors that you're getting? You can use the contact form to get in touch with me directly.

As a temporary solution, I used snoopy to fetch collections and collection thumbnails from the flickr-website. (some simple regexp on the flickr-page souces gives thumbnails, links and collection names).
This gives me the ability to embed flickr-collections in my online photo-album and from where a user gets to sets, phpflickr takes over again.

It is quick and dirty and only allows for displaying collections, but to me it's better then nothing.

Flickr just added flickr.collections.getInfo and flickr.collections.getTree to their API!

I saw that! I'm at a conference in DC at the moment, but I will get these implemented as soon as I can. In the mean time, remember that you can simply use the "call" method.
